Carroll County Law Enforcement Endorse Brian for State's Attorney
The Carroll County Fraternal Order of Police is an organization that represents the men and women wearing the badge in this County. They are not interested in political rhetoric, but see what is really happening on the streets and the courtrooms. I was very honored and proud to have received their endorsement, and they set out some of the reasons in this Letter to the Editor to the Carroll County Times.
FOP Endorses Candidates
Letter to the editor: Carroll County Times Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Since 1970, Carroll County FOP Lodge 20 has represented the men and women that work as deputies in the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and police officers in the municipal departments within the county. While we have worked hard to historically keep Carroll a safe place, we believe we are at an important crossroads in law enforcement in this county.
Over the past several years the face of law enforcement has changed in our county. Most noticeably is the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office being the county’s primary law Enforcement agency. Furthermore, we have seen a significant spike in serious crime and drug overdoses.
This is acknowledged by the current administrations within the Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney Office. We do not feel that the direction that both offices are taking is a proper one to combat this. We know the upcoming election for Sheriff and State's Attorney will play a critical role in determining how effective we will be in keeping Carroll citizens safe. We have a duty to the public we serve to express our opinion regarding the upcoming election given the importance their decision will have on public safety.
Since the fall of 2013, our members have engaged in a lengthy endorsement process considering the best candidates to serve as Sheriff and State’s Attorney. We heard from each candidate, asked important public safety questions of each and heard their vision for addressing the issues we face. We were focused on solely determining who would be the best Sheriff and State's Attorney to tackle the law enforcement issues Carroll faces now and into the future.
Having completed this process, we are pleased to announce that our members have overwhelmingly chosen to endorse Jim DeWees for Carroll County Sheriff, and Brian DeLeonardo for Carroll County State's Attorney. These gentlemen are respected professionals in their fields, having extensive experience working in law enforcement and the courts in this county. They both bring a solid reputation for creating strong and effective partnerships that as a lodge we know is currently lacking. We have full trust in DeWees and Deleonardo to take our future as officers and a county in their hands.
We have determined that these candidates are the best to lead us so we can best help the citizens of Carroll County. Therefore, we proudly endorse and support these candidates in the upcoming Republican Primary on June 24.
